A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN
Spring is around the corner with winter in
its closing days. Have you noticed the days getting longer, with sunset
not until after 6:30 pm?
I want to look back and reflect on
how this year has gone so far with HOST. I have had the pleasure of
working with a great, active board this past year. As a Board, we
have tried very hard to get the homeschool community in our area
involved. How have we done?
To start the school year off, we had the
Homeschool Olympics which had a lot of "Minute to Win it"-type
games. I believe everyone who attended had a great time. In
October, we had our first Skate Night at Rollerjam Sk8Town Roller Skating Rink during one of their Monday
Christian skate nights. We had a large turn out at that event. In November, we had
the annual Thanksgiving Feast. Sharing great food and fellowshipping with
other homeschoolers was a lot of fun. December was filled
with the Christmas Play, another skating party and even some caroling.
We started 2012 off
with another skate night in February that had a Valentine's theme. The
elementary students also had a Valentine's party that included crafts, cookie
decorating and sharing of Valentine cards. Towards the end of
the month, we had the Historical Cotillion, where over 250 people were in
attendance. It was a fun night of dancing, food, laughter and fellowship
all evening.
On a regular basis,
there have also been several field trips to various places with a strong
attendance at each of them and people are requesting more.
In response to the
wonderful attendance we have had at these events, there is still more to
come. In April, we are scheduled to have our first Spring Formal Dinner
and Dance for 7th thru 12th graders. In May, we will be having
Senior graduation.
It is an exciting time
in HOST. Maybe next year we will have a HOST Family Camping Trip-who
knows? We are always open to suggestions. If there is anything you
feel would be beneficial to the Homeschool community, please let us know. In
the meantime, please pray and consider being a part of our Board, for which we
are going to need 2 positions filled next year. We need a new Secretary
and Shereen Bickham, who has been serving as our Logistics Director, will be
stepping down as her youngest son, Zach, graduates this year. Even if you
don't serve on the Board, we are always looking for help with the events that
are scheduled.
In the meantime, I give you
the Jewish blessing found in Numbers 6:24-26, "The LORD bless you and keep
you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the
LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."
